Willie and D.W Williams are a married couple from North Carolina who just celebrated their 82nd wedding anniversary with a lot of love, pleasure, and laughter. DW is 103 years old, and Willie is 100. They also celebrated their birthdays, which are barely a week apart, as well as their marriage of over eight decades. According to WSOC TV, the triple milestone was celebrated with a large reception at First Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“To see them at this age and still doing well,” Williams-Greene told the news source, “it’s simply a gift to have them here.” They are each other’s “best buddy,” she added.
Cab trips were just 10 cents when they first met, according to the pair. While a lot has changed in their 80-plus years of marriage, their love for one other has remained constant. Their marriage has weathered the Great Depression, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, and 9/11. They feel they are really fortunate to have each other during these turbulent times. When asked what their secret to their incredibly long marriage was, they only offered one piece of advice: “Be kind to one other.”
When their daughter and granddaughter gave them a celebration, the news was soon picked up by the local media. There were lovely tablecloths and balloons, and their family were in attendance. Her grandparents, according to Williams-Greene, are living examples of long-lasting, healthy, and loving marriages.
“Communication, loving each other, and working together” were key factors in their marriage, she said.
Their remarkable narrative was taken to heart by public personalities as well as neighborhood people. After news of their accomplishments and celebrations was covered by many sites, they got many congratulations and nice remarks.
Willie was just 18 when they married, and DW was approximately 21. They’ve spent the most of their life together, and they’ve always been there for one other. Imagine what they must have gone through!
